Overview

Welcome to musical comedy heaven! Featuring one of the most iconic scores of all time by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill, a revised book from Harvey Fierstein based on the original classic by Isobel Lennart, tap choreography by Ayodele Casel, choreography by Ellenore Scott, and direction from Michael Mayer, this love letter to the theatre has the whole shebang!

The sensational cast, starring Drama Desk Award® nominee Lea Michele as Fanny Brice, Tony Award® nominee Ramin Karimloo, Jeff Award winner Jared Grimes, and Tony Award nominee Tovah Feldshuh, dazzles with the songs “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” “I’m the Greatest Star,” and “People.” This bittersweet comedy is the story of the indomitable Fanny Brice, a girl from the Lower East Side who dreamed of a life on the stage. Everyone told her she’d never be a star, but then something funny happened—she became one of the most beloved performers in history, shining brighter than the brightest lights of Broadway.

Tonys Need to Revise Their Rules
Carol S, 10-11-2022
Last May, I had tickets to see Funny Girl with the previous lead. Due to unfortunate circumstances, I was unable to go and lost my $400 tickets. I couldn’t even resale them for less. No one wanted them. I vowed never to purchase theater tickets in advance again. In July, when Lea Michele was announced as taking over the lead, I knew I had to be in NY in November. I remembered her from Glee and saw great seats were at a bargain price come November (4 months later). Would prices increase if I wait? I decided , it wasn’t much to lose out on $69, orchestra, row G seat tickets if I had to so I bought 2. Last night, I saw Funny Girl. In a world of cancel culture and not believing that people can change, it would have been a shame had Michele not been given this role due to past sins. Is she fundamentally different, I hope so. Should I believe she has grown and matured and seen the error of her ways? I hope so. For now, I take her at her word and I choose to see her performance as who she is now. I have seen many Broadway shows on Broadway and touring companies to the Pantages. This is the first show I’ve seen where someone receives a standing ovation during the middle of the show. Absolutely well deserved. Micheke was everything I’d hoped she’d be as Fanny Brice. Her voice was powerful, flawless. Her comedic timing and acting was perfection. Her performance BEYOND. Thank you producers for taking a chance. I witnessed one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. TheTony Awards needs to revise their rules. I don’t know, maybe, when someone quits, the next lead can be considered for a nomination. The same goes for mama Brice. You all figure out the logistics. If they can create a one time category for puppetry and give it to Kong, who by the way fully deserved it, Lea Michele deserves recognition of a Tony nomination. If you have any reservations about seeing Funny Girl, GO!!!
