What To Expect

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Its roughly 2 million works of art and artifacts cover everything from Ancient Egypt to modern art. From the Great Hall, you’ll visit the museum’s most important galleries. Pass through the Medieval Europe Gallery on your way to the Studiolo from the Ducal Palace. Explore armory form the Middle Ages, including pieces worn by Henry VIII. The American wing hosts the staircase from the Chicago Stock Exchange as well as the famed portrait of Washington crossing the Delaware. A host of European painters including Vermeer, Picasso, and Van Gogh await you as you learn about their troubled yet exciting lives. All the while, your guide will explain how this iconic American museum differs from its older European counterparts, especially since it began before the United States was even 100 years old!

Mark was excellent. He really knew his way around the museum and had a lot of knowledge about New York and art and art history. He was enthusiastic and made our tour fun for 8yo’s and 78 yo’s alike.

Jeff, our guide, was informative and engaging. He added some history and personal antidotes during our tour that were interesting and entertaining. He was terrific and enhanced our experience. I thought the 2.5 hours was a good timeframe. There is so much there and even with 2.5 hours we still saw only a fraction of the total. It was a great way to navigate the museum and get a sampling of the various sections.

I highly recommend this immersive tour into art and history, and architecture and design with Robin. My teenage daughters were fully engaged throughout the whole 2.5 hours.

Our tour guide Jonathan had a wonderful personality!! We actually took the wrong subway line and showed up about 30 minutes late. He was very gracious in waiting for us, periodically checking in with us well before our tour even began.

He also stayed after the time allotted to give us the "full 2-hour timed tour". It was probably closer to 2.5 hours.

With our limited time in mind, we should have quickly worked through the exhibits a bit faster to see more. We certainly learn so much more about the perspective of the various paintings and artists who painted them. More than we ever could have imagined on our own.

Overall, I would recommend Jonathan to a friend, and I'm glad we spent the money to have a richer, fuller experience.
